The Stanford Graduate School of Education is seeking nominations and applications for an early career (untenured) faculty member specializing in secondary school English Language Arts and adolescent literacy with a preferred emphasis on school-based scholarship relevant to issues of equity, inclusion, and supporting students of various backgrounds and learning needs. The successful candidate will have a strong record of accomplishment, including a doctoral degree with a focus in the area of English language arts and/or the conduct of teacher education in secondary English language arts. Applicants are strongly preferred to have prior classroom experience at the secondary level. Further, the candidate should have expertise in various aspects of youth literacy development; these could include and are not limited to literature, writing, disciplinary-based literacy, literacy in different contexts, impacts of technology.

As a faculty member, this person will teach graduate level courses for doctoral students as well as master’s level pre-service teachers, with the potential to teach other master’s students and undergraduates as well. They will also advise and guide doctoral research in writing and composition, English education, and related fields.   

Ph.D./Ed.D., or enrollment in a Ph.D./Ed.D. program with anticipated degree conferral by the time of appointment, is required.

The expected base pay range for this position is $140k - $153k.

Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
