Open Faculty Positions

The Biology Department of Stanford University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor level appointment in animal physiology. We seek applications from candidates with expertise in any area of animal physiology including biomechanics, physiological ecology, and comparative physiology. We are particularly interested in applicants whose work explores physiological processes from molecules to whole animals. We seek a broadly trained researcher who is committed to: 1) developing a vibrant research program that fully engages trainees including undergraduates, graduate students, as well as postdoctoral fellows, 2) excellence in teaching, and 3) promoting inclusivity in research and teaching. The position will involve teaching physiology at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The department is in the School of Humanities and Sciences and has over 50 faculty covering biology broadly from molecular to population. We support faculty success through mentorship, opportunities for professional development, and sabbaticals. The department offers many shared facilities in support of research on our campus, in addition to the Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve, which is close to campus and the Hopkins Marine Station in Pacific Grove, CA.  Faculty of the Biology Department are part of the rich intellectual environment of the Stanford community, and we value collaborative work within and beyond our Department. The expected base pay range for this position is $129K-140K. 

Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
