The Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability (SDSS) is seeking applicants for a full-time, nine-month tenure-track open-rank professor in Environmental Justice (EJ). We seek scholars with demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in EJ.
Candidates must have the appropriate terminal degree in an EJ-related field of STEM and/or social sciences. The successful candidate should consider EJ as a broad, international issue and may work on any geographical region of the world. Candidates will be expected to: 1) Develop a widely recognized research program that attracts external funding and contributes to the interdisciplinary emphasis of the school; 2) Support EJ teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels, including mentoring and supervising graduate and undergraduate students; 3) Contribute to SDSS, the University, relevant professions, and society at large through service, collaboration, and engagement. Critically, we are seeking scholars who are committed to using their EJ research to help solve sustainability challenges based on rigorous study design, data collection, and addressing socio-ecological tradeoffs in decision making.
Candidates should demonstrate evidence of engaging one or more of the following communities in their work: indigenous peoples, philanthropy, grassroots organizations, policy-makers, government agencies, industrial actors, or other comparable stakeholders. Such engagement might encompass participatory action research; government service; partnerships with community-based organizations, nonprofit research institutes, public agencies, or businesses; community-based research; and public policy advocacy. Successful candidates will have scholarly contributions that broaden participation among members of under-represented groups, advancing the work of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Such scholarly contributions can be demonstrated through the candidate’s research, teaching, and/or public engagement, including a commitment to and support of diversity in the learning experience, and the integration of multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools.

The expected base pay range for this position is:
Assistant Professor: $126,000-$145,000 per annum
Associate Professor: $155,000 - $190,000 per annum
Professor: $186,000 - $248,000 per annum
Stanford University has provided a base pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
