The Department of Anesthesiology at Stanford University seeks exceptional candidates to join the Division of Multispeciality Anesthesiology as Director of Liver Transplantation Anesthesiology with an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor in the Clinician Educator Line.

  • The major criterion for appointment as Clinician Educators is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administrative and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.

The Director of Liver Transplantation Anesthesiology will lead a dedicated team of anesthesiologists providing specialized care for patients undergoing liver transplantation. The Director will oversee all aspects of the specialty group, including clinical care, education, research, administration, and interdepartmental collaboration. The Director of Liver Transplantation Anesthesiology will act in partnership with the Chief of Multispecialty Anesthesiology, transplant anesthesiologists, transplant surgery teams, and medical subspecialist teams to deliver coordinated care to liver transplant patients.

Specific job elements include:

  • Overseeing the provision of expert perioperative anesthetic care for liver transplant patients, ensuring the highest quality and safety standards.
  • Developing and implementing best practices and protocols to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Establishing a clear communication channel between the transplant anesthesiology service and services from other disciplines that participate in the care of liver transplant patients.
  • Creating a formalized consulting service for the management of complex and inter-disciplinary transplant anesthesia cases and the facilitation of multidisciplinary decision-making.
  • Managing staffing models to ensure 24/7 coverage for liver transplant procedures.
  • Holding regular group meetings.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive curriculum for transplant anesthesiology training and overseeing the education of trainees.
  • Promoting and facilitating clinical and translational research related to liver transplant anesthesia.

The successful candidate must have an MD or degree (or foreign equivalent) and be a board-certified (or equivalent) anesthesiologist who is eligible for a California license or exemption. Desired qualifications include:

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in transplant anesthesiology with a strong promise of leadership and program development capacity.
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical care and teaching.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to co-lead multidisciplinary teams and efforts.
  • Some leadership experience within an academic or hospital-based anesthesia department.
  • Record of supporting and participating in scholarly efforts.

The expected base pay range for this position is:

  • Clinical Assistant Professor: $432,000 – $441,000
  • Clinical Associate Professor: $455,000 – $465,000
  • Clinical Professor: $478,000 – $499,000

This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It does not include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
