Stanford Data Science and the Department of Statistics at Stanford University invite applications for a tenure-track a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in data science, focusing on the theory and practice of learning from data. The departmental home of the appointee is Statistics with a faculty scholar role in the new Stanford Data Science unit.

Applicants should have demonstrated strong research abilities and exhibit a commitment to teaching and mentoring. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in statistics, data science, computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline at the time of appointment and will be expected to teach and advise students at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The appointment is expected to begin on September 1, 2024.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute creatively and in depth to theoretical and applied data science through research, teaching and trainee mentorship. We are open to candidates working on a broad range of problems including but not limited to statistical methodology, applications, computation and theory. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills, and will be able to actively contribute to our rapidly growing institute and their home department.

  • Curriculum vitae (including a complete publication list)
  • A research and teaching statement (no more than three single-spaced pages)
  • A brief (no more than 300 words) summary of their expected research program
  • Up to 2 representative publications or preprints
  • Contact information for at least three letters of recommendation

The salary range for this position is $138,000 - $146,500, for academic year 2023–24. 

Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
