The Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford seeks a clinical pain research faculty member to join the Department as Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in the University Tenure Line or University Medical Line, with preference for an established investigator. Research areas of interest include both acute and chronic pain. We are particularly interested in candidates who have programs focusing on clinical trials, regional anesthesia, implementation science, economics, epidemiology, health services research, public health policy, precision medicine, or other high-impact topics.

  • The predominant criterion for appointment in the University Tenure Line is a major commitment to research and teaching.

  • The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.

Faculty rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.  Assigned clinical responsibilities, if any, will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

The ideal candidate would be highly collaborative and leverage our existing strengths in clinical, translational and basic sciences in pain as well as other Stanford resources to develop a field-leading program. It is expected that this program will create training opportunities for students, residents, fellows and junior faculty as well as create bridges to other Stanford programs. The candidate would join a thriving NIH, PCORI and FDA funded Department with strong emphasis on pain research. The Department has a great tradition of active and diverse research encompassing laboratory, translational and clinical project areas across all sub-specialties in the field. The Department is also home to two NIH funded T32 postdoctoral training programs, one specifically focused on training postdocs in pain research, substance use disorders research or their intersection.

Candidates must hold a PhD and/or MD and display scientific creativity as investigators with outstanding performance, or promise for outstanding performance, as the leader of a clinical research group, teacher and mentor.

The Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine Department, School of Medicine, and Stanford University value faculty who will help foster an inclusive academic environment for colleagues, students, and staff with a wide range of backgrounds, identities, and outlooks. Candidates may choose to include as part of their research and teaching statements a brief discussion about how their work and experience will further these ideals.
