The Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics in the Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University seeks an Academic Scholar with a record indicating scholarly activity in any areas related to Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues in Genetics, Genomics, or Precision Medicine to join the Department as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in the Non-tenure Line (Research) faculty line. We are particularly interested in candidates who have a terminal degree (PhD, JD, MD, etc.) at the time of appointment.
The major criterion for appointment for faculty in the Non-tenure Line (Research) is evidence of high-level performance as a researcher for whose special knowledge a programmatic need exists. Faculty rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
Candidates will be encouraged to work collaboratively with faculty both within the Center and within the School of Medicine. The successful candidate should have a demonstrated track record of scholarship and the promise to continue to carry out high quality research. The primary criterion for appointment is a major commitment to research.
The Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics is a leading research program with strengths in ELSI scholarship. We have a T32 training program in ELSI and serve as the lead institution as the Coordinating Center for ELSI research at NHGRI (ELSI Hub). The Center is actively involved in teaching at all levels (undergrad, grad students, medical students, post-docs,) and runs a very active clinical ethics and research ethics consultation services. There are opportunities for teaching or consultation depending on the candidate’s interests.

The expected base pay range for likely disciplines are listed below. Research with PhD or equivalent:
Assistant Professor: $177K – $195K
Associate Professor: $209K – $233K
Research with MD/PhD:
Assistant Professor: $184K – $202K
Associate Professor: $212K – $236K
This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It may not include all components of faculty compensation or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
