The Department of Religious Studies at Stanford University invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in Islamic Studies. We seek candidates specializing in pre-modern Islam (7th–15th centuries), with a preference for the early period. Regional focus and disciplinary approach are open. A PhD is required at the time of appointment. It is expected that the successful candidate will support and contribute to the department’s commitment to diversity, inclusive pedagogy, and equitable practice. They must demonstrate substantial evidence of creativity and excellence in research and scholarship, engagement with the broader concerns of Islamic and Religious Studies, and dedication to teaching and advising students at both graduate and undergraduate levels. The term of the appointment is expected to begin September 1, 2023, or as soon as practicable thereafter.
